Packing for this trip is tricky for sure. Especially when one has lived in Hawaii for nearly 25 years! Attempting to get everything needed into a carry-on is another hurdle. We can definitely check a bag, but I have read of people’s checked bags missing a flight, and then you are out of luck. There is no future port of call where your bag(s) can catch up to you. I think our plan is to get the basics into a carry-on for each of us. Then pack 1 checked bag that has “extras”.
There is laundry machines on board, but we also don’t want to be doing laundry all the time!
I have a number of things that I wore to the AFC game in January 2020 in Kansas City. Who knew then that they would come in handy 5 years later in Antarctica! Temperatures in Antarctica may actually be warmer than they were for that game! And I understand the ship temperature is rather comfortable. Probably not Hawaii comfy, but should be do-able.
I have 2 pairs of long underwear, 2-3 pairs of long leggings, at least 1 pairs of fleece lined leggings, a newly knitted penguin beanie hat, a baklava, a couple gaiters, wool socks, other socks, a cardigan, a heavy pull-over, 2 pairs of heavy gloves, and who knows what else in the pile!
I’m loading up my tablet with books to read (especially in the long flights to and from). I got a new phone recently, so I’m getting everything configured in that, and I need to clear off the pictures to have lots of room for this trip.
Headed to CA in 2 weeks. 7 more shifts to work before I leave. Lots to do to be as prepared as possible!
